It is calculated on a daily basis, showing how the prices have moved. It started in January 1984, the base year, with a value of 100 and has now risen beyond the 6,000 mark.. In 2008, in order to provide a comprehensive measure of the performance of the stock market, the NSE introduced the NSE All Share Index (NASI) as a market capitalization-weighted index, with a base value of 100, consisting of all listed securities, effectively making it the benchmark index for the Kenyan stock market.
